Cacao origin | Maya Mountains, Belize

Pasión originates from the lush rainforests of the Maya Mountains in southern Belize, a region where cacao has been cultivated for centuries as both a sacred plant and daily nourishment. Rich biodiversity, limestone soils, and abundant rainfall allow cacao to develop depth, softness, and a naturally balanced profile.

Our cacao is ethically sourced from indigenous Mopan and Q’eqchi’ Maya family farmers who continue to cultivate cacao within traditional agroforestry systems. These systems foster harmony between cacao trees, medicinal plants, and the surrounding rainforest, preserving land vitality and honoring cacao’s ancestral lineage.

Cacao from the Maya Mountains is known for its smooth, rounded character and gentle warmth—qualities that beautifully support the floral and sensual nature of Pasión. Each harvest reflects patience, care, and deep respect for cacao as a living relationship between people, land, and ritual.

Key ingredient: Mucuna Pruriens (Kapikachhu)

Mucuna Pruriens is a revered botanical traditionally used in ancient herbal systems and symbolically associated with vitality, joy, and life force. In Pasión, it is included to support ceremonial rituals, creative expression, and moments of conscious presence.

Our Mucuna Pruriens is carefully cultivated on small-scale family farms in and around Rajasthan, India. This variety thrives in well-drained sandy or loamy soils and matures under the warm sun and gentle winds of the region, resulting in a high-quality botanical that integrates smoothly into ceremonial cacao.

Enriched with rose and vanilla

Rose petals have long been honored across cultures as symbols of love, devotion, and beauty. In ceremonial settings, rose is often invited to soften the heart and create an atmosphere of tenderness and receptivity. In Pasión, rose adds a light floral aroma and subtle sweetness, deepening the sensory experience and supporting rituals of connection and self-expression.

Vanilla has been cherished for centuries for its rich aroma and naturally comforting presence. In Pasión, vanilla rounds out the depth of cacao, softens the profile, and weaves the floral notes of rose into the natural warmth of cacao, resulting in a smooth, inviting drink meant to be enjoyed slowly and consciously.

Collaboration from the heart

Our cacao from the Maya Mountains of Belize is created in close collaboration with indigenous Mopan and Q’eqchi’ Maya family farmers, whose relationship with cacao spans thousands of years. Cacao is cultivated in biodiverse forest gardens guided by ancestral knowledge, ceremony, and deep respect for the land.

Through long-term relationships and direct collaboration, this cacao supports community-led livelihoods, the preservation of heirloom Criollo genetics, and an approach to agriculture rooted in reciprocity rather than extraction.

Reciprocity and commitment

At Herbal Cacao, our sourcing is rooted in reciprocity, respect, and long-term relationships. We work directly with indigenous Maya communities and trusted local partners, pay above-market prices to support sustainable livelihoods, prioritize biodiverse and regenerative cacao systems, reinvest in community-led initiatives, and honor cacao as a sacred plant with deep cultural and ancestral significance.

By choosing this cacao, you support a supply chain carried by mutual care, from the land and farmers to your cup.

Ritual invitation

Prepare your cacao slowly. Allow the aroma to rise. Let this moment soften your breath and open your awareness. As you sip, invite warmth into the heart and awaken a gentle inner flame—an invitation to feel life more deeply, receive fully, and express freely.

Rest in this space of quiet radiance, and carry the softness of this moment with you into the world.
